Summarize with AI

Perplexity has added REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) as a skill in its Computer agent. You ask Computer to reverse-engineer an app, and it studies how the app works without the source code, then builds a working version. Perplexity announced it on X on October 16, 2026.

Free credits

Tasks that use the /reverse-engineer command are free through October 31, up to 10,000 credits per user. CEO Aravind Srinivas called it a "bootstrapping credit balance" for anyone who wants to reverse-engineer an app of their choice.

Five demo apps

Perplexity showed five web apps that Computer built with REA. They are live for a limited time.

Original app What the rebuild does Demo
Figma Layers, auto-layout, sign-in, cross-device sync, multiplayer editing ui-editing.pplx.app
LibreOffice Calc Edit cells, write formulas, charts update live spreadsheet-editor.pplx.app
Photopea Layer-based photo editing with masks, color adjustments, editable text photo-editor.pplx.app
Harvey Search contracts, compare versions, flag clauses against your rules, with citations contract-review.pplx.app
Audacity Trim and mix tracks, adjust volume, add fades, export WAV audio-editor.pplx.app

What REA is

REA is an open-source MCP server by developer morluto, under the MIT license. It lets an AI agent inspect a target and return findings with evidence.

  • Native binaries: pseudocode, assembly, strings, symbols, calls and references, using Hopper, Ghidra or IDA.
  • JavaScript and Electron apps: modules, imports, source maps, routes and IPC.
  • Websites: page structure, scripts, network traffic and screenshots, through a Chrome-family browser.
  • Other targets: .NET, Android APKs, WASM, firmware, packet captures and more.
  • It can also run a target and record its runtime behavior.

Outside Perplexity, you can add REA to your own agent with npx rea-agents setup.
