Google Play now lets adults install Android apps they vibe-coded in Google AI Studio on their own phones, with only a regular Google account and no developer account. The rollout starts in select markets, including the U.S., for users 18 and over.
These personal apps stay private: in Google's words, they are "private, secure, and separate from the public store catalog". Bloomberg reports they do not show up in Play Store search or recommendations. Google announced the change on October 13, 2026.
What it is
- Build in AI Studio, install from Play. You describe the app in Google AI Studio, and Google Play installs it on your own device.
- No developer account. Until now, publishing from AI Studio to Play needed a Google Play Developer account with a one-time US$25 fee.
- For yourself first. In the coming months, Google says you will be able to share personal apps with a close circle of friends and family.
- Going public later. To release an app to everyone, you move to a professional developer account, and the app goes through the same reviews as other apps.
