DeepSeek has opened its Search and Fetch APIs to all developers and will charge $0.75 per 1,000 successful requests for each. Calls made through DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code and Codex are free for now. Billing for those starts on November 1, 2026, at 00:00 Beijing time (October 31, 16:00 UTC).
What the two APIs do
- Search finds web pages for a query and returns structured JSON. It runs on DeepSeek's in-house search engine, which the company says serves hundreds of millions of requests a day. Each result has a title, URL, snippet, a longer summary for models, optional page content, date, a relevance score and an authority tier. It supports operators such as
site:,lang:,after:andbefore:. - Fetch takes one URL and returns the page title and content as Markdown.
Both use the same API key as the DeepSeek model API.
Pricing and limits
| Search | Fetch | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $0.75 per 1,000 successful requests | $0.75 per 1,000 successful requests |
| Rate limit per account | 100 requests per second | 25 requests per second, plus a per-domain limit |
- You pay per request, not per token or per result. The
countsetting does not change the price. - Only HTTP 200 responses with a usable result are billed. Empty search results, errors and timeouts are free.
- The two rate limits are separate. Going over returns HTTP 429.
DeepSeek announced the APIs on October 17, together with the open-weights model DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017.
